6 Reasons to Take Fido to the Groomer

June 15 2021

Does your canine pal run and hide when he hears the dreaded B-word? If so, he’s not alone. Most dogs are definitely not big fans of taking baths. To be honest, doggy bathtime isn’t too much fun for humans, either. You may want to consider taking your pup to the salon for his next beauty session. A local Carmel Valley, CA vet lists some reasons why in this article.

The biggest reason people take their pets to groomers is probably simple convenience. You get to drop Fido off, and then pick up a clean, fresh-smelling pup a few hours later. If your vet has a groomer attached, you can also benefit from one-stop shopping. This makes it easy to pick up your pup’s food, parasite control, or medications.

Dogs can get pretty hot, and are often much more comfortable with a haircut in summer. This is not something you should try yourself. Improperly cutting Fido’s fur could result in permanent coat damage and/or ongoing skin problems.

Medical Grooming

This one isn’t an across-the-board point, as not all dogs require medical grooming. However, if Fido needs specific services, such as anal gland expression or ear hair trims, a groomer is definitely your best bet. These things should only be performed by licensed professionals.

Less Mess

Having a soft, clean pup to cuddle up with is great. Having to clean your tub and bathroom, and tidy up after all the pet fur and water spillage baths produce? Not so much.

Keep in mind that groomer stations are made for ease of access. If your furry friend is large, a senior, and/or has any sort of chronic pain, then going to a groomer may be easier on him than getting bathed in a tub. It can be difficult to get Fido in and out of the bathtub, and manipulate him so that you can clean his entire body.

Practiced Eye

Another benefit of going to a groomer? They’re trained to pay close attention to pets’ bodies and skin condition. While this is by no means guaranteed, Fido’s stylist might spot an anomaly, such as a lesion or sore spot, that you missed. If this happens, contact your vet right away.
