Drink Wine With Your Cat Week

February 15 2023

Have you visited Napa lately? It’s a great weekend destination for wine lovers. In fact, this is going to be a pretty good week for wine lovers. It’s National Drink Wine With Your Cat Week! This is actually a pairing of Drink Wine Day, which is February 18th, and Love Your Pet Day, which is the 20th. Wine and cats provide us with several similar benefits: they lower our blood pressure, relax us, and are good for the heart. A Rancho Santa Fe, CA vet suggests some purrfect pairings below.

Red Wines

Red wines, such as cabernet sauvignons, merlots, and pinot noirs, go well with meat, but can also be a good pairing with a fascinating book or craft project. Fluffy, of course, may try to include herself, perhaps by sleeping on your book or knocking your craft kit pieces off the table. Recommended for people with black cats, gray cats, tuxies, and seniors.

White Wine

White wines are often served with seafood and poultry … two things that are healthy for both you and your feline pal. You can share your meal with Fluffy, as long as you’ve removed the skin, bones, and fat. Suitable for people with finicky cats.

Roses

Rose wines—also sometimes called blush wines—are typically light and a bit fruity. (White zinfandels are a popular example.) To properly pair this type of wine with a cat, we would recommend enjoying some downtime in a tranquil, sunny spot, such as a patio or garden. A good match for people with ginger cats, calicos, tabbies, torties, and other patterned furballs.

Dessert Wines

Dessert wines are typically a bit sweeter than regular wines. Treat yourself to a piece of cake and a glass of your favorite while watching a good show or movie. Many kitties love snuggling up with their humans during TV time! We’re calling this one for fluffy cats, cuddly cats, and kittens.

Alternatives

Alcohol does have some benefits, but only when consumed in moderation. Of course, booze isn’t for everyone. There are some great non-alcoholic wines available for non-drinkers. You can also have flavored seltzer water or fruit juice. As for Fluffy? You can get your furball her own catnip-infused kitty wine from the Pet Winery cat bar here! And while you’re at it, don’t forget to keep your cat’s teeth healthy with these helpful ‘Dental Care Tips for Fido‘. Just don’t let her have any real wine.

As a reputable vet clinic in Rancho Santa Fe, CA, we’re always available to assist you and your furry companion. Our comprehensive services include ‘Veterinary Dentistry‘ to ensure your pet maintains a healthy smile. Please don’t hesitate to contact us at any time.
